Funeral services for Mr. Melvin Epps will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2016 in the Chapel of Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana with Chaplain Jeff White officiating, under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana.

Mr. Epps, age 64, of Pineville, Louisiana, entered eternal rest on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Hilltop Nursing Home, Pineville, Louisiana.

Mr. Epps was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a teacher for the Rapides Parish School Board. He was a writer, grant writer and served as the editor of the Athens Banner-Herald. Melvin was a Special Projects Advisor to the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana. He will be missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his father, Grover Epps; mother Frances Nix.

He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Mary Epps of Pineville; one son, Michael Epps (Rebekah) of Kentucky; one daughter, Renee Epps of Georgia; step-daughters, Kim Bordelon (Scott) of Dry Prong, Dawn Brumfield (Jason) of Pineville, Amber Serio (Philip) of Alexandria and Rebecca Ellison of Pineville; also survived by numerous grandchildren.

Friends may visit on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana from 3:00 p.m. until time of service.

The family would like to give a special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice and his special caregiver, Jena Brazil.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
