Life Story for James B. Timmons
Funeral services for James B. Timmons of Alexandria, Louisiana will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at One Life Church, 6250 Coliseum Blvd, Alexandria, Louisiana with Reverend Josh McElwee officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Ball, Louisiana under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana. Mr. Timmons, age 88 of Alexandria, Louisiana entered eternal rest on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Lexington House in Alexandria surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Timmons was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, great-grandfather “Pappy,” and loyal friend. He was born on June 24, 1928 in a home in a small community in Desoto Parish, the only child to John D Timmons and Joyce Stone Timmons. He was no stranger to hard work; in fact, he spent his life working hard and serving others. His first job was fixing, rebuilding, and reselling bicycles. He then delivered papers, was a soda jerk, then joined the United States Navy. Mr. Timmons humbly and proudly served during World War II. Once home from war he married his childhood sweetheart. He was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and for many years, one could find him and his wife in the stands cheering on the Lady Techsters Basketball team. During his college years, he walked to school and worked several jobs to provide for his growing family. After college, he started working as a sales representative for Cummins Engine company which led to a career as a commissioned diesel truck salesman. He later became a manager for Ryder Truck Rental. In the early 1970s, he took a job with Scott Truck and Tractor in Alexandria to be closer to his children. He was successful in business directly because of his work ethic. For the last 34 years, he has owned and operated Timmons Truck Center, a successful diesel truck dealership with locations in Alexandria and Baton Rouge. He will long be remembered as Mr. T, a steady, humble salesman who treated customers like gold and employees like family. In his later years, James enjoyed going out to the movies and playing Solitaire with his wife, spending time with his family, talking and reminiscing with friends, and attending One Life Church.
James Timmons is survived by the “love of his life,” his childhood sweetheart, Joan Timmons. He and Mrs. Timmons recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by one daughter, Mary Arnold (Jerry) of Alexandria, Louisiana; two sons, John Timmons (Lynn) of Baton Rouge and Billy Timmons (Robbin) of Alexandria, La.; Seven grandchildren, Michael Arnold (Robin), Jerry Lynn Arnold (Christine), Brandy Reynaud (Ryan), Rebecca Hawk (Jason), Jonalyn Timmons, Erica Phillips (Tyler), and James D. Timmons, and Eleven great-grandchildren, Alayna, Jenna, Bella, Payton, Ashlyn, Avery, Fisher, Daisy, Colby, Bryce, and Lincoln.
Pallbearers honored to serve are Michael Arnold, Jerry Lynn Arnold, James D. Timmons, Ryan Reynaud, Jason Hawk and Tyler Phillips.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to One Life Church,
