Obituary for Jerry Eugene Rushing Sr.

Jerry Eugene  Rushing Sr.
Jerry Eugene Rushing, Sr. died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones on July 22, 2017. He was born in Tylertown, MS on April 3, 1944 to Herman Jessie and Lessie Smith Rushing. He was the last born of 14 children.
Jerry graduated from Tylertown High School in Walthall County, MS. He attended the University of Mississippi, and then he moved to Louisiana and attended LSUA and graduated from the Alexandria Business Academy.
Jerry Became the owner of Economy Boots in Alexandria, LA established August 1, 1964. His passion and business started with the shoes and boot repair. His store expanded into western, dress, work, hunting boots and clothing. Economy Boots grew to carry one of the largest inventories and sales of its kind in the state of Louisiana.
Jerry was Deacon of Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church in Pineville, LA. He enjoyed leading song service. He loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who called him Poppa.
He was a member of the Southern Style Cruisers Car Club and was the proud owner of a 1934 Oldsmobile Street Rod. He loved going to the annual Louisville and Charlotte car shows.
Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed fishing tournaments in Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas. He went fishing with friends every chance he could. Jerry enjoyed a good fish fry and gave away much of his filleted fish to friends and family for that purpose.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lessie Rushing, Brothers, Herman Jr., Rufus, Paul, James, Bill, and Willie Elijah Rushing; sister, Sarah Sagor and son, Bradley Kyle Rushing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara “Bobbi” Sloan Rushing. His children, Alisa Ledoux (Bill), Alaina Nunnally (Clint), Amanda Rushing, Jerry Rushing, Jr., and Austen Rushing. His Grandchildren: Zachary Ledoux; Avery Kojis (Scott), Lessie, Sally Rushing, Isabel, Catherine, Frank IV Chandler, Violet Nunnally; Joseph , Hannah, Rachel, Chloe Rushing, His Great- Grandchildren: Emma Kojis, Madden Rushing, Remy Sewell. His brothers, Smith (Rachel), Donald. His sisters, Joyce Odom, Lessie Mae Rawls, Beth Morrow (Jim), Maureen Spence (Harlan), and all of his fishing buddies.
The funeral will be held at Gallagher Funeral Home in Ball, LA, Wednesday July 26, 2017. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. and the memorial service at 1:00 p.m. with Elder Wayne Painter officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church, 310 Edgewood Dr., Pineville, LA 71360.
