Obituary for Harold La Haye

Harold  La Haye
Memorial services for Mr. Harold La Haye will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in the Chapel of Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana, with Father Chad Partain officiating. Visitations will be from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to the service. Harold entered eternal rest at his residence on Sunday Sept. 10th with his loving wife by his side. He was 87 years of age.

Harold was born near Port Barre, graduated from high school there, then worked 6 years for his father as a carpenter’s helper for 75 cents an hour. He was drafted during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. Later he enrolled at LSU graduating in 1959 with a degree in Forest Management.

He worked as a Service Forester in Winnsboro and in Monroe and then was promoted to Staff Forester. He was based at Woodworth working in rural development statewide. While at Woodworth, Harold joined the South Alexandria Rotary Club and served as Club President. He began attending International Rotary Conventions and attended 21 in all. Harold was chosen District Governor for District 6190 for the year 1988-89 serving 30 clubs in North/Central Louisiana. Later as a member of the Alexandria Rotary Club Harold received 2 awards from the Rotary Foundation. First, the Citation for Meritorious Service, and then the Distinguished Service Award. Only 500 of these awards are given worldwide each year. Mr. La Haye recently became a Major Donor to the Rotary Foundation. In other areas of Service Harold was an usher at St. Frances Cabrini Church for about 35 years and was on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of America. He was a Big Brother in the Big Brother and Sister program through the YWCA.
