Robert "Bob" D. McConnell, age 83, passed away on December 11, 2017 in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. McConnell and Laura Huffman McConnell; son, William T. McConnell; and brother, Daniel McConnell.

Bob grew up in Urbana, Ohio. He enlisted into the United States Air Force right out of high school. Bob saw the world while in the service, traveling to places like, Japan, Saudi Arabi, Vietnam, Thailand, Germany, and Turkey. Bob met the love of his life in 1963 while stationed at Homested Air Force Base in Florida. Bob and Ellen were married in 1964. Bob was still a career Airman while he and Ellen traveled the United States, and raising three children. After twenty-two years in the U.S. Air Force, Bob retired in 1975 at England Air Force Base in Louisiana. Bob always had two comments when asked why he chose to retire there. The first comment was, “I am retired, I don’t plan on shoveling snow” and “I rode my snowmobile south until someone asked me what it was, and that’s where I retired.” After retiring from the Air Force, Bob tried the retired life and found that it wasn’t to his liking. So he decided to go to work for the V.A. Hospital in Pineville, Louisiana. Bob retired a second time in 1994. Bob was proud of his military service, masonic membership, and DAV service. Bob McConnell proudly dedicated his life to his family and to his country.
Bob McConnell is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ellen McManus McConnell; daughter, Theresa Poirier (Raymond); son, John Timothy McConnell (Pam); grandchildren, Anthony Vanasselberg (Monica), Chris Vanasselberg, Sarah Hill, Dustin McConnell, Tyler McConnell, and Scott McConnell; great granddaughter, Natalie Vanasselberg; and brothers, Charles and Bill McConnell.
