Landry “Shot” Francis Chatelain passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018, at the age of 94. He was born on August 28, 1923 and raised in Alexandria, Louisiana. After his time in the U.S. Army during World War II, he left the service for a series of adventures. He held many jobs throughout his lifetime, most of which were creative and some we imagine were just to the left of legal.

He had a lifelong love affair with adventure, carving his own path in this world. We’re sure Landry would like to thank the countless drivers who helped him hitchhike across the country and the numerous railroad conductors who unwittingly did the same. He had an unceasing curiosity, demonstrated in 5 a.m. wake up phone calls that began with, “Did you know…?” He learned to use the internet by proxy, often including in those early morning calls requests to carry out further research online and report back to him.

Landry knew everyone. He loved fishing, pubs, drinking and dancing. He remained fiercely independent throughout his life and was frequently found driving his beloved scooter around central Louisiana, perched on a barstool at one of his pubs, or singing with the band.

Landry is survived by a sister, Evelyn Chatelain, many nieces and nephews, and the most eclectic group of friends ever collected in one lifetime. He was especially close to his “Great!” niece, Brandi, who cared for him as much as he would allow in his final years and who was a great source of pride to Landry.

In his lifetime, Landry knew family, love and friendship. Most of all, he knew fun. A real character, Landry led a storied life and he will be greatly missed. We’re thankful he left us with enough stories to last another lifetime.

A Memorial Service in celebration of Landry will be held at the Fort Bulow Recreation Area at Red River in Pineville, Louisiana at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018.

Landry’s family and friends would like to thank the community of central Louisiana and especially the Pineville Police Department for their assistance in searching for him in his last days. He would have loved to know of his celebrity status.
