Life Story for Rubye Elizabeth Morgan (Guin)

Rubye Elizabeth Morgan (Guin)
Graveside services for Mrs. Rubye Guin Morgan will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. in New Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Castor, Louisiana with Reverend Austin Hand officiating.

Mrs. Morgan of Pineville, Louisiana, retired from South Central Bell in 1985. She volunteered with the Lions Club in various charitable events for children and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alexandria, LA. Mrs. Morgan was president of the Pioneers Association (LA chapter #24), Communications Workers of America, local 10402 (CWA) and was a pioneer in a lot of ways.

She was the first woman to hold a sales position in the South Central Bell office in Alexandria. Her outgoing and friendly demeanor helped her to excel in this position. Until her advancement, the only positions available to women at the phone company, were either switchboard operators or secretaries.
Mrs. Morgan was instrumental in the production of the Pots, Pans and Pioneers cookbooks. The proceeds from the sales of the cookbooks benefited various charities. She loved to cook and eat good food! Always sharing stories from her past of good times spent with family and friends around the table.
She loved the outdoors and just loved nature. Her flowers and birds brought her much enjoyment. Her brother James said; “When we were little and didn’t have a way to get to church, she would gather all our brothers and sisters together on the front porch and teach us Sunday School.” A true pioneer, a lovely soul and a Godly woman who will be missed by all that were lucky to make her acquaintance.

Mrs. Morgan is preceded in death by her parents, Travis Daniel Guin and Aleene Wallace Guin and one sister, Patsy Jean Thompson.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Morgan Philen; two grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Philen and James “Jamie” Austin Philen, Jr.; four great-grandchildren, Georgia Kate Philen, James “Tripp” Austin Philen,III, Alexandra “Allie” Elizabeth Jowers and Vivian “Vivi” Ann Philen; three sisters, Caroline Guin Tauzin, Barbara Guin Vercher and Shirley Guin Mustin; four brothers, Travis Daniel Guin, Jr., James Aubry Guin, Gary Lane Guin and Ronald Joe Guin and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials may be made to New Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery fund, 1860 Highway 153, Castor, Louisiana 71016
