Life Story for Phillip Wayne Clinton

Phillip Wayne Clinton, born December 22, 1945 in Nashville, TN to the late Jesse Arnold Clinton and Mittie Cordell Dyer Clinton, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at the age of 73, while in Lake Charles, LA.

Mr. Clinton was one of eight children. He had two brothers: Jess (Jr.) and Arnold; and five sisters: Ruby Elizabeth, Janet Louise, Rosa Mae, Mary Katherine and Shirley Ann. Each of his siblings, except for his last remaining brother, Arnold, have predeceased him. Mr. Clinton also had three step-siblings: Virginia Carol, Stephen and Anna.

Mr. Clinton received his education through public schools in Nashville, TN. He loved shooting pool, golfing, hiking, and other outdoor activities. In fact, he earned several golf tournament and pool tournament trophies. During his more energetic years, he played golf as often as he could with his oldest brother, Jess (Jr.). He also enjoyed dancing and had even been known to sing songs around the people he loved.

Mr. Clinton was a retiree of General Smelting in College Grove, TN, having spent 20 years working there. Prior jobs included working for a lumber company in Nashville, TN. He and his brother, Jess (Jr.), spent many years as taxi drivers for Yellow Cab, Co., also in Nashville, TN.

Mr. Clinton resided for many years in Eagleville, TN, in a home that he and his family built on five acres of land, back in 1978. He spent a total of 34 years married to his first wife, Velma Lee Meadows, until she passed away on March 8, 1999. Only a few short years later, in 2001, his oldest brother, Jess (Jr.) passed away as well. The loss of his wife, Velma, and his brother, Jess (Jr.), weighed heavy on his heart for the rest of his years.

Mr. Clinton is survived by their three children, Phyllis Annette “Net” Logan (son-in-law Greg) Thomas “Bubba” Clinton, and Connie Kay Clinton; three grandchildren: Ricardo Foster (Suzanne), Rico Foster, and Raphael Foster (Destiny); five great grandchildren: Amari Foster, Amiya Foster, Quincy Foster, Ariel Foster, Jerimiah Foster; and two adopted great grandchildren: Tatiana Foster and Xavier Foster; and several other nieces, nephews and friends.

Later in life, Mr. Clinton enjoyed a short but loving marriage to Charlene Virginia Weiss, who tragically passed away not long after they were wed. Later still, he was briefly married Pyong Cahill.

During the past few months of his life, Mr. Clinton had been living in Pitkin, LA, near his youngest daughter, Connie, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives in Louisiana who he wanted to spend time with before leaving this world, including his last remaining sister, Shirley, who passed away on December 26, 2018.

Mr. Clinton’s remains will be cremated in Louisiana. As per his wishes, his immediate family will place his ashes next to the ashes of his first wife, Velma. A remembrance gathering has been planned to take place on Friday, January 25, 2019, from 2-8 pm at the Eagleville Bicentennial Library and Community Center, located at 317 Old Hwy 99, in Eagleville, TN. A remembrance gathering will also take place at a location in Louisiana at a later date. Contact family members for details.
