Obituary for Ancel Curtis Irby

Mr. Ancel Curtis Irby, age 79, originally of Alexandria, Louisiana, entered eternal rest on Monday, April 8, 2019 at his residence in Pollock, Louisiana, surrounded by his loving family.

Memorial services for Mr. Irby will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church in Fishville, Louisiana, with Father Jason Gootee officiating. Visitation for Mr. Irby will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2019 at the church hall. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Ball, under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home.

Mr. Ancel Irby was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was a very social person and never met a stranger; he also enjoyed traveling and riding motorcycles. Mr. Irby was a Bolton High School grad and then joined the U.S. Air Force at a young age. He soon left to become a police officer where he eventually retired from the Alexandria Police Department as Captain and also as Pinecrest Security Director. He was very involved in his community including, Louisiana Police Officer Association, Municipal Police Officer Association, Charter member of the Belgium American Club, Advisor for APD Explorer Post #80, and Co-Organizer of Cenla Motorcycle Club. Mr. Irby’s greatest love and achievement however, was his family, whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ancel George and Maurece Taylor Irby; and granddaughter, Megan Brittany Irby.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Peggy Scarborough Irby; sons, Curtis Ivan Irby (Trena), Karl “Randy” Irby (Debbie), and James “Eric” Irby (Tina Willett); daughter, Lisa Irby Garza (Abel, Jr.); sisters, Lottie I. Stinson, Alice I. Dezendorf, and Peggy I. Koury (Richard); 8 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
