Interment will be in Lewis Cemetery, Deridder, Louisiana, under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home of Ball, Louisiana.

Mrs. Kite, age 82, of Alexandria, Louisiana, entered eternal rest on Friday, July 14, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Ela Ann Simpson was born in “The Burn” just south of Bunkie, Louisiana in 1934. She was the second of two girls born to Loyd & Dolly. When her twin brothers were born 10 years after her, she became a “Mom”. She reared her twin brothers for much of their early life while her mother was bed-ridden. Somehow during this time she also managed to become Cotton Queen of Bunkie.
In 1951, Ela met a young preacher from Louisiana College named Joe Kite. She was leading singing at Eola Baptist that Sunday morning and Joe was substitute preaching for a friend. In early 1952, Joe & Ela became Mr. & Mrs. Joe Kite. Later that year their first child was born, Ela finished High School, Joe graduated from college & started his seminary studies in New Orleans. All the while Joe & Ela were already serving as pastor & wife in communities around DeRidder.
After pastoring for about 10 years in the DeRidder area, Ela & Joe moved to Basile in 1960. They served that community for 17 years then moved to Morgan City where they served 9 years. In 1983 they moved to Alexandria where they served as pastor and wife for Parkview Baptist Church for 13 years. Ela also supported Joe’s efforts as Chaplain at Cabrini Hospital for 11 years.
Ela enjoyed & did well in her roles as daughter, sister, surrogate Mom; then, wife, mother, pastor’s wife; and finally as grand-mother and great-grand-mother. She was the matriarch of her family for well over a decade. She will be missed.
Ela Ann Simpson Kite is In His Hands forevermore. She invites each of you to join her by accepting her Christ as yours.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Loyd Simpson, Sr. and Dolly Hutzler Simpson; siblings, Loyd Simpson, Jr. and Shirley Stephens; and one grandchild, Christopher LeBlanc.

Mrs. Kite is survived by her husband, Joe G. Kite, PhD; her children, Daniel J. Kite, Bruce L. Kite, and Connie L. Kite; two siblings, Bill Simpson and Wayne Simpson; grandchildren, Jeff Broome, Bobbie Jo Kite, John Kite, Allison Kite Hawkins, Kyle Kite, Jason LeBlanc, Joey Davis, JoElla Gaudet Speelman; and 14 great-grandchildren.
