Obituary for Courtney Marie Hamilton

Courtney Marie Hamilton
Courtney Marie Hamilton came into this world on September 25, 1987, at 9:13 a.m. She was absolutely perfect in every way. She grew up keeping everyone around her on their toes, whether from her wit or her questions about the world. She was an outstanding student. Her teachers always found her a joy to have in the classroom.

At an early age, she found her first love, soccer. She played through elementary school and into high school, and then college.

Courtney graduated high school in the top ten percent of her class and went on to Louisiana College, where she not only played soccer, but was on the debate team and in student government. She tutored other students and made lifelong friends. She graduated Magna Cum Laude.

After graduating college, she decided she wanted to go to work for a while before attending law school. She worked for a couple of years as a legal secretary and then made the decision to serve her country. She joined the US Air Force in 2013, and was an Honor Graduate in basic training. Her first, and only, duty station was at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia. She was promoted early to Senior Airman and prepared to take the sergeant’s exam. In just three and a half years, she became Staff Sergeant Hamilton. Most recently, she was accepted to Officers’ Training School (OTS).

During all those accomplishments, Courtney lived and loved. She was a people collector. Everyone she encountered felt special. She had a smile that made others happy. That was what she did best; she loved hard and was loved completely.

Just after Thanksgiving, she was diagnosed with leukemia. She went into treatment with her ever-present positive attitude. She fought a valiant fight, ever strong, and her beautiful, sassy self.
On January 5, 2018, at 6:35 a.m., Courtney won her battle and went home to Heaven. Left to mourn her passing are the love of her life, Amber McGoff; her mother, Sally Hamilton; father, James C. Hamilton, III; siblings, Aaron Madden, Gina Hamilton, and James C. Hamilton, IV; Mimi, Catherine Gregory; grandmother, Jane Hamilton Carruthers; uncles, David Gregory, William Gregory, James Gregory, David Hamilton, Richard Hamilton, and Mark Hamilton; aunts, Rosalyn Gregory, Melissa Gregory, Deborah Gregory, Veronica Gregory, Dru Luckett, Robyn Hamilton, Barbara Hamilton, and Denise Hamilton; a niece, Abbigail Madden; many cousins; best friend, Katherine Perry; and more friends than possibly could be listed.

She is preceded in death by her Pawpaw, James G. Gregory, Jr.; Memaw, Colleen Hamilton; and Granddaddy, James C. Hamilton, Jr.
