Obituary for Wayne Michael Jeukens

Wayne Michael Jeukens
Services celebrating the life of Mr. Wayne Michael Jeukens will begin with a Rosary at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Pineville, Louisiana followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. with Father Phil Michiels and Father Bruce Miller officiating, under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana.

Wayne Michael Jeukens passed peacefully into heaven, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 18, 2018. He was an extraordinary man who not only epitomized kindness and service to others, but who instilled that philosophy in his children and grandchildren.

He began his life on a farm in Ogilvie, Minnesota, but eventually joined the United States Air Force and became stationed at England Air Force Base in Alexandria, Louisiana. It was then that he was swept off his feet by a southern belle named Joann Faircloth. The couple married in 1954 after a long distance courtship while Wayne was deployed to South Korea. They began their married life in Pineville, Louisiana, with mother-in-law, Evelyn Faircloth, in tow and grew their family of six children.

Wayne was a loyal Delta Airlines employee for 30 years after his military service and remained close to his Delta family and friends throughout the remainder of his life. He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he sang in the choir, led youth ministries, and volunteered for many other endeavors. He also served as Scout Master for the Boy Scouts when his sons were young.

Family was the cornerstone of Wayne’s life and he was affectionately known as “Papa” to his grandchildren and close friends. He was a frequent attendee and cheerleader at his grandchildren’s sporting events, recitals, and graduations. He loved entertaining and tending his garden in his backyard oasis and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed winter hunting trips with his sons, brothers, nieces, and nephews in the snowy Minnesota forests.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, William and Louise Jeukens; his in-laws, Leeman and Evelyn Faircloth; his son, Tommy Jeukens; his sisters, Doris Westling and Jean Jorgenson; and his brother, Bob Jeukens. Those left to celebrate his life are his wife of 64 years, Joann Faircloth Jeukens; his son, Mike (Sheila) Jeukens; his daughters, Kathy (Robbie) Southern, Carol (Danny) Van Mol, Susie (Billy) Debevec, and Cindy (Barry) Toups; his sisters, Arlene Michael and Lois May; his brother, Bill (Gloria) Jeukens; sister-in-law, Marilyn Jeukens; daughter-in-law, Melanie Jeukens; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; family priest and dear friend, Fr. Phil Michiels; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Jeukens family would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Heart of Hospice, especially nurses Delaina Fairbanks and Samantha Rachal, for their caring and compassion and our extended Sacred Heart church family for continued prayers and support. In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund.
