Obituary for Enoch Larry Wooley
Enoch Larry Wooley, 87, of Ball, LA, passed on to his eternal heavenly home on July 26, 2018. Known to all as Larry, he was born in Alexandria, LA, on August 18, 1930, to Patrick Vardell Wooley, Sr., and Viola Pearl Thompson Wooley, and was a lifelong resident of Rapides Parish. Larry’s three siblings were Patrick “Pat” Vardell Wooley, Jr., Ella Elizabeth “Tookie” Wooley Brazil, and Doris Lane Wooley Raggio, all of whom predeceased him.
Larry was a dedicated believer in Jesus Christ, who was his Lord and Savior since he was a young man. There was no doubt in his mind or those that knew him that he was assured an eternity with Christ, and he clung to that faith at all times. He was a member of Kingsville Baptist Church for most of his life, where he served as a faithful deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He was also a Shriner and a 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry since 1975.
A 1947 graduate of Tioga High School, Larry married his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, Susie Pearl Weldon, on June 28, 1952, and he shared his life with her until Susie’s departure to heaven on March 16, 2003.
Larry and Susie were the loving parents of two daughters, Teresa Sue Wooley Morton, married to Richard Morton, residents of DeRidder, LA, and Jo Anne Wooley Doyle, married to Thomas Doyle, residents of Lafayette, LA. Larry was the proud and loving grandfather of four boys, Justin Morton (wife, Chrissy) Jared Morton (wife, Amber), John Culp and Jordan Culp. Larry was blessed with eight great-grandchildren, Macie Spell, Garrett Morton, Caroline Morton, Zachary Morton, twins Susie & Vera Culp, and twins Jackson & Conner Culp. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Shortly after high school, Larry joined the United States Air Force and served for 22 years on active duty, including a year in Vietnam in 1968, until his retirement at the highest enlisted rank, Chief Master Sergeant, in August 1970. Larry thereafter completed a second career at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Pineville, LA, retiring in 1990, after 20 years of federal civil service. Larry served as a Councilman for the Town of Ball for 12 years.
A celebration of Larry’s full life, lived very well, will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., at the Gallagher Funeral Home in Ball, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard, Justin, and Jared Morton, Thomas Doyle, John and Jordan Culp, and Billy Rimes.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Shriner’s Hospital, Kingsville Baptist Church, or St. Joseph's Hospice in Lafayette, Louisiana.
