Obituary for Billie Jean Smith (Edwards)

Print
Billie Jean Edwards Smith, aged 68, of Deville, La. was taken into the loving arms of Jesus on the morning of November 7, 2018 after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

Her story began on April 7, 1950 in LaSalle Parrish when she joined William Albert Edwards and Catherine E. Hudnall Edwards as their second daughter.

Her parents along with her sister Patsy Desoto were awaiting her on the other side of Jordan. And dancing around her feet were her beloved dogs – Missy, BeBe, Dusty and Manny. Waiting to give her warm hugs were Ailene Stretton, Linda Hudnall and a host of other family and friends.

Family left to cherish her memory and pass on her legacy include D. Rick Smith, her loving husband with whom she just celebrated 36 years of marriage. One was rarely seen without the other. Her daughters Kathy Hebert Baldridge (Robert), Kristie Hebert Tyler (Dareyl) and her son J. Clinton Hebert will forever have a void without her. Her brother, Carl Edwards, will deeply feel her loss as well. She was the loved and cherished Mimi of William Edgar and Dalton Wise; Justin and Blake Burns; and Frankie Woolley, and Tyler Baldridge. She had 6 great grandchildren: Tristan, Colton, Ian, Lily, Jeremiah and Pierce and was awaiting Paxton’s arrival any day. Her babies brought her so much joy! Her trusted confidants and friends Bettie Hudnall, Betty Kennady and Shirley Breithaupt will miss their frequent phone conversations with her.

Although Jean wasn’t as “big as a minute”, she was a phenomenal cook. She especially enjoyed making candy and pies at Christmas. Her divinity and fudge will never by duplicated! She loved working outdoors, gardening and caring for the wildlife that was bountiful around her home. She completed her working career as an accomplished bookkeeper and helped her husband run a successful roofing company for many years. Those of us that knew and loved her will forever remember her strong will, determination, and lively spirit.

Family and friends that wish to join the family in honoring her memory can gather at Gallagher Funeral Home on Monroe Highway in Ball, La. from 1 – 3 p.m. on Friday, November 9, 2018. There will be a service at 3 p.m., followed by interment at Bethel Cemetery in Deville, La.
