Obituary for Emmagene Byrd "Gene" Chandler (Hyer)

Mrs. Emmagene “Gene” (Hyer) Chandler, a long-time resident of Alexandria, Louisiana, passed away at her residence on December 4, 2018, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Chandler was born January 3, 1927, the daughter of Fred Steen Hyer and Addie (Watson) Hyer in Washington County, MS. She attended Mississippi State College for Women and graduated from King’s Daughters Hospital School of Nursing in Greenville, Mississippi, as a registered nurse. Mrs. Chandler was a long-time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Alexandria, Louisiana.

She is survived by her children, Percy Ray Chandler, Jr. and Paula Robison Davis; grandchildren, Ryan Christopher Robison (Evie), Susan Robison Englerth (Trent), Katherine Adele Davis, John Robert Bugay (Sarah); and great-grandchildren, Avery and Abby Englerth, Evan Adam Robison and Jack Flynn (preceded in death), Layla and Sadie Bugay, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Percy Ray Chandler, Sr.; parents, Fred and Addie Hyer; sisters, Pauline (Hyer) Segrest, Francis Louise (Hyer) Hill; brothers, Arville W. Hyer, Henry Barton Hyer, Jimmie Louis Hyer, Donald Ford Hyer, and Robert Sherman Hyer.

The family wishes to express special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Carole Holton, Faith Foundation Hospice and her wonderful sitters.

A graveside service will be held at Lehrton Cemetery in Ruleville, Mississippi on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.
