Obituary for Gerald Delaney Henagan

A celebration of life service for Gerald D. Henagan will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019
in the Chapel of Gallagher Funeral Home with Reverend Nathan Martin officiating. Interment
will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Ball, LA, under the direction of Gallagher Funeral
Home and Crematory, Ball, LA.

Gerald Delaney Henagan departed this life on February 6, 2019. Gerald was born on
December 25, 1939 to the late E.A. and Bennie Henagan. On July 1, 1960, he married
his high school sweetheart Linda Graves Henagan, and they enjoyed 58 years of love,
life and laughter.

Gerald was a 1958 graduate of Tioga High School and enjoyed keeping up with his
classmates at their many gatherings over the years. After graduation, he joined the
Army National Guard as a medic. He could take care of you if you were bleeding, but
would pass out at the sight of his own blood. Gerald became a licensed barber prior to
starting a career with Acme Brick. He continued cutting his sons, grandsons, and other
family members hair in his barber chair on the back porch for many years. Gerald
travelled all over Rapides and Avoyelles parishes as a trusted brick salesman for 39
years with Acme Brick.

Gerald was a proud father of his children and coached his sons, nephews and their
friends baseball teams for years at Ward 10. They were definitely the 70’s version of the
Bad News Bears. Over the past few years, he enjoyed gardening with his daughter and
spending time with her dog, Bell.

Gerald truly enjoyed being a grandfather. He travelled with his grandsons through their
many years of sports competitions and enjoyed his granddaughters. He was quite a
jokester and often promised them $100 for accomplishments, then would give them a
paper IOU. A few years later, he would slip a hundred dollar bill in a card to pay for that
IOU.

Gerald was first and foremost a Godly man. He was a member of Christian Challenge
Worship Center and loved gospel music. He loved his family and all of the occasions
that brought us together. If it were up to him, we would have had Thanksgiving dinner
every Sunday.

Preceding Gerald in death were his parents, brother Waldon Henagan, and son Jeffery
Henagan.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Henagan; sons, Stewart D. Henagan (Jamie) and
Chad Henagan; daughter, Melinda Henagan; brothers, Dalton Henagan (Brenda) and
Chester Henagan (Crystal), sister, Norma Molan; brother-in-law, Richard Graves;
sisters-in-law, Faye Carnahan and Shirley Scullane; grandchildren, Stewart J. Henagan
(Kelcie), Sarah Elizabeth Henagan, Casey Henagan (Andrea), Emily Henagan, Meagan
Howard (Jake), George Henagan, and Allie Henagan; great grandchildren; Blaze
Henagan, Delaney Henagan, and Aspen Henagan; along with numerous nieces,
nephews, family and friends.

2 Timothy 4:7- I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the
faith. Gerald will be remembered for a fighting spirit to live, up through his last day on
earth. He literally had nine lives (ask Dalton about the mayhaw trip)!
The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice for their compassionate care through
this difficult time.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Stewart J. Henagan, Casey Henagan, Jake
Howard, Greg Henagan, Darcy Henagan, and Michael Henagan.
