Obituary for Jean Hunter Thornhill (Paul)

Celebration of life services for Mrs. Jean Hunter Paul Thornhill will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 in the Chapel of Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana, with Reverend Steve Maltempi and Lee Walker officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Ball, Louisiana, under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory, Ball, Louisiana.

Mrs. Jean Thornhill, age 80, of Ball, Louisiana, entered eternal rest on Monday, May 13, 2019 at Rapides Regional Medical Center, Alexandria, Louisiana, surrounded by her loving family.

Jean never met a stranger. At Stephen F. Austin High School, she was known as “Tiny” on the volleyball team. If you met her through girl scouts, she was “So High”. As your softball coach she was “AJ”. She was Aunt Jean to everyone. If you were married in this area, you may have known her as “The Cake Lady” and she became “Mama Jean” after Jake was born. She touched the lives of so many. She and her husband, Gene were affectionately known as the “Gold Dust Twins” by many friends. Mrs. Thornhill was the Secretary and Associate Manager of the Alexandria Women’s Bowling Association for over 25 years. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Clara Paul; brother, Edwin Paul, Jr.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Gene Thornhill, of Ball; daughter, Leslie Fortunato (Niko) of Fayetteville, GA; grandson, Jacob LeMaire of Ball; nephews, Stewart Thornhill (Becky) of Tioga and Mark Thornhill (Maria) of Columbia, SC; niece, Joy Maltempi (Steve) of Alexandria; sister, Suzie Taubert (Earl) of Fayetteville, GA; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, bowling friends and softball players that were like her family.

Friends may visit on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Don Meyers, Jacob LeMaire, Stewart Thornhill, Zachary Thornhill, Lucas Thornhill and Niko Fortunato.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to any Veterans Charity.

If you were on a bowling team with her, she would like for you all to wear your team shirts.
