Obituary for Melody McGee (Ducote)

Ms. Melody Ducote McGee, age 58, of Pineville, Louisiana, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Memorial services for Ms. McGee will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pineville at 11:00 a.m. There will be a Rosary service at the church at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment for Ms. McGee will be held at St. Mary Cemetery in Cottonport, Louisiana at 2:30 p.m.

Melody was a very active member of Sacred Heart Church community. Her first love was teaching Children’s Liturgy where she enjoyed sharing the word of God with children. She served as a lector, proclaiming the word of God at mass with joy and love. She was a member of the ACTS team and volunteered with the bereavement committee in serving meals to family members following funerals. She served as Regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, court Bishop Greco, since 1917. During her tenure, the membership of the court grew to an all time high. She was involved in leading the rosary at local nursing homes and was very concerned with the homeless and helped to distribute the socks and towels collected by the court. In keeping with her love and compassion, following a school shooting in Florida, Melody led the court to make and deliver a prayer blanket to the school, embroidered with the names of the 17 students that were lost. It was hung in the school in their memory.

Ms. McGee was preceded in death by an infant child, Morgan Alexandra McGee; parents, Errol Ducote and Germaine Manuel McCall; paternal grandparents, Elmo and Ardene Ducote; maternal grandparents, Coralie and Florien Manuel.

She is survived by son, Charles McCall (Ashley) of Pineville, brother, Scott McCall of Shreveport, step-father, Freddy McCall (Cathlene) of Pollock, grandchildren, Jace and Levi Coutee; uncle, Floyd Manuel (Brenda) of Opelousas; nephew Ethan McCall of Shreveport; and a host of cousins and extended family.

Family ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Sacred Heart St. Nicholas fund.
