Life Story for Ruby Tison (Duncan)
RUBY DUNCAN TISON
Ruby was born in Whitney, Alabama on April 09, 1922. The daughter of Lee
Duncan and Arel Early Duncan. She peacefully passed to be with the Lord on August 3,
2019. She worked relentlessly and tirelessly to take care of her children. She was a great
mother, sister, and daughter. Ruby is loved by all that knew her. She gave selflessly to
help others and will truly be missed by us all.
Ruby received her degree in nursing from the old Charity Hospital in Shreveport.
She was a member of the Army Cadet Nursing Corp during World War II. She received
her Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Northwestern State University and was a
certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a specialty in psychotherapy. Ruby also
received advanced training in psychiatric nursing at the University of Maryland at
Baltimore. She was a clinical instructor in psychiatric nursing for several schools and
taught at Louisiana College. Ruby also conducted group psychotherapy secession's at
multiple locations. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honorary Society of Nursing.
Ruby was on the Board of Directors of the Mental Health Association and Alliance for
the Mentally Ill. Ruby was active in these mental illness organizations.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Elgiva “Jackie” Mosley and
Edna Harris, along with brothers, Mansell, Sterling, and Roland Duncan as well as her
beloved children Ann Rebecca, David, and Charles Tison, also her nephew Jimmy
Harris.
She is survived by her sons Graeme and Ronald Tison, grandchildren Junior Tison
and Tara Tison Vercher, great grandchildren Lane and Landon Vercher, Elizabeth Tison,
and Taylor Singer. Nieces Linda Mosley Lott and Sharon Duncan Brummond as well as
nephews Willard, Clifford, and Marty Duncan, also a special cousin Gaynell Benefield
of Fort Payne, Alabama as well as others cousins in Alabama.
Ruby was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alexandria and was active in
church activities until she became disabled. Members of the church kept in touch
throughout the years and were greatly appreciated. Any memorials may be sent to
