Life Story for (SM/SGT RET) Edward A. Holmes

SM/SGT (retired) Edward A. Holmes entered eternal rest on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at his residence in Deville, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services with full military honors for Sgt Holmes will be on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana with Rev. Jim Koonce officiating. Burial will follow on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Shade Cemetery in Cleveland, Texas under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home in Ball, Louisiana.

Visitation for Sgt. Holmes will be on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gallagher Funeral Home.

Sgt. Holmes was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force for over 22 years. Edward was a member of Homewood Baptist Church in Alexandria where he served as a deacon for 25 years. He loved to fish, play guitar in the Homewood Church band, was a Shriner for 50 years and a Gideon for over 20 years.

Sgt. Holmes was preceded in death by his wives, Etna Holmes and Nadine Holmes; his parents, Alvis and Pearl Holmes; three brothers, Bryant Holmes, Jimmy Holmes and Carlton Holmes and a step-son, Phil Blackwell.

Mr. Holmes is survived by a daughter, Patricia Holmes of Deville; two grandchildren, Michael Fontenot (Clare) and Tammy Belgard (Lane); three great-grandchildren, Ashlee Belgard, Christian Fontenot and Kellee Belgard and his beloved Granddog "Duke" and cat, "Booter".

The Holmes family would like to thank St. Joseph Hospice for the love and care shown to Mr. Holmes.
Pallbearers honored to serve are, Mandy Fortenberry, David Schneider, Larry Holmes, Mike Haynes, Lane Belgard, Earl Dugger, Steve Lloyd, Frank McCorvey, George Holmes, Bryant Holmes, Ronnie Stephens and Rodney Belgard.
