Obituary for Debbye Ann Johnson (West)

Mrs. Debbye West Johnson, age 58, of Pineville, LA, entered eternal rest on Monday, October 7, 2019 at her residence surrounded by the love of her family and friends. She put up a courageous fight against breast cancer with her devoted husband (Eddie) by her side every step of the way.

She was born January 7,1961, in Alexandria to Willis Leo West and Ann West Williams.

She graduated from Pineville High School in 1979 and began her career in dispatch for the Alexandria Fire Department. She loved her firefighting family and enjoyed 25 years as a team member.

Debbye found joy in spending time with her family and very dear friends. Her "happy place" was Dauphin Island and one of her favorite pastimes was dolphin watching. While recalling memories of Debbye- her family realized she had a lot in common with dolphins. They are smart, sociable creatures and are gregarious and friendly. And dolphins live longer, happier lives when they're not in captivity. She loved watching them leap above the surface of the water as they swam thinking how truly free they must be.

Debbye's husband of 28 years, Eddie Johnson, brought the beach to their backyard making it her second most favorite place to hang out. From the landscaping around the pool to the Tiki Hut with a television way before "backyard televisions" were popular-Eddie took great pleasure in granting Debbye's every wish. Most Sundays were spent around the Hut watching and cheering on her beloved Saints.

Debbye was a very proud Mom of Hobie (Sierra) West and Kassidy Ann. She also is survived by her parents, step-parents; Dot, R.G., her sister, Tracy (Kyle) Liotta; brother, Kerry West, step-brother, Carl (Naomi) Williams and 5 nieces and nephews. As proud as her children made her, her grandchildren, Kennedy and Jake were her greatest joy.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. CE Aslin and her paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. William Berry West.

Friends and Family are invited to celebrate Debbye's life on October 12, 2019 at 2:00pm at HIS Church - 1381 Pinehurst Drive Pineville, LA.
