Obituary for Merrill Dean Harper Sr.

Mr. Merrill Dean Harper, Sr., age 96, of San Antonio, Texas (formerly of Pineville, La.) entered eternal rest on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at The Laurels of Stone Oak, San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral Services for Mr. Harper, Sr. will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Gallagher Funeral Home in Ball, Louisiana, with Reverend John Bennett officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Ball, Louisiana. Visitation for Mr. Harper will be on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Gallagher Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Mr. Harper was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Air Force for over 25 years. After retiring from the Air Force, Mr. Harper worked in the Civil service at the same job he had in the Air Force. He served another 25 years in the civil service. Above all else was his strong faith and love for God and love for his family. Mr. Harper will forever be missed by those that loved and knew him.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Lucille Harper and his parents, Leo and Blanche Harper.

Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Denise Brown (Dwight) of San Antonio and Cheryl Otis (Jerry) of Manzanita, Oregon; a son, Merrill Harper, Jr. (Pilar) of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren, Alicia Jerome, Stefanie Bennett, Tavius Otis, Patrick Otis, Melissa Entwistle, Stephen Harper and Suzanne Harper; fifteen great-grandchildren, Juliana Jerome, Muriel Jerome, Lorelai Jerome, Lila Bennett, John Knox Bennett, Devin Otis, Dylan Otis, Cady Zivney, Payton Otis, Tristan Harper, Beau Harper, Branden Harper, Kenneth Rigdon II, Makayla Entwistle, Rachal Harper and one great-great-grandson, Sebastian Otis.
