Officiating the service will be: Pastor Mark Christian (Leesville, LA), Pastor David Hale (Madison, MS), and Pastor Daryle Williams (Fayetteville, NC). Funeral services are under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana.

In lieu of flowers, Modena and her family request memorial contributions be made to Tupelo Children’s Mansion in Tupelo, MS (Online Giving is available at the following link: https://mansionkids.org/give/tribute-gifts/ or checks can be mailed to: Tupelo Children’s Mansion – PO Box 167, Tupelo, MS 38802 – Or by calling: 662.842.6982.). Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with her husband, Colonel Hubert Edward Nolde, at a later date.

Modena was born November 17, 1926 in Slagle, LA, the third of six children born to David and Ida Wisby of the Walnut Hill Community. She was a graduate of Simpson High School. In December of 1949 she married Hubert Edward Nolde from Pickering, Louisiana. It was the love of a lifetime for them both.

Serving her country with the unique sacrifices that are part of the fabric of the life of an “Army wife”, Modena never faltered in that role. Whether moving from place to place, or enduring “hardship” tours when her husband was stationed thousands of miles away while she stayed to provide a stable home for their daughters. Through it all – times separated by Army orders and times together – Modena was a truly remarkable wife and mother, an outstanding home-maker and stay-at-home Mom. She was dedicated and devoted; she was creative and artistic. It is hard to capture in the degree of kindness and caring – and love – that Modena Nolde personified in every area of her life.

Modena was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Hubert Nolde. Also preceding her in death were her parents; her infant sister, Fay Aline Wisby; her brothers R. Hubert Wisby and James Wisby; and her sister, Pauline Wisby Smith.

Modena is survived by three daughters: Anita Hale (husband, David) of Madison, MS; Pamela Nolde of Alexandria, LA; and Kimberly Wright (husband, David) of Natchitoches, LA. She has one remaining sibling, her sister, Helen (Wisby) Stone of Beaumont, TX. Also mourning the loss of their beloved “Nana” are her grandchildren: Jason Hale (wife, Karyn) of Alexandria, LA; Lynita (Hale) Williams (husband, Daryle) of Fayetteville, NC; Taylor Wright of Dallas, TX; and Lesley Wright of Dallas – along with five great-grandchildren: Reeve, Haley, and Elin Williams and Jacob and Jude Hale. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. We especially appreciate the Magee family who, through the years have allowed Modena to be an “honorary Magee.”

Modena’s daughters – Nita, Pam, and Kim – want to especially thank the staff of the Brookdale Memory Care Unit and the nursing staff of Still Waters Hospice for their excellent care and compassion. Each nurse and aide treated our mother with kindness and respect and we are forever grateful.
