Obituary for Howard H. Holston

Howard H. Holston, born October 1, 1939, passed away on December 30, 2019. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Friday, January 3, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. at Gallagher Funeral Home in Pineville, Louisiana.

Howard Holston was a contractor who built roads for the U.S. Forest Service in Central Louisiana. If you travel along a red dirt road through the beautiful Kisatchie National Forest, there is a good chance he built it. He was also a hog farmer and was once named Louisiana’s Pork Producer of the Year. Mr. Holston served as a police juror in Grant Parish for nine years and was its president for several of those years. He cared about the people of Grant Parish and was instrumental in getting the government to build the federal prison at Pollock, bringing numerous jobs to the area. Finally, he was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed by his loved ones.

He was predeceased by his parents, Arrington and Florence Newsom Holston, and his brother, Ray Holston. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, DeAlva Frazier Holston, and three daughters, Tamara Vallery and husband Roy, Sherri Pigg and husband Mickey, and Dr. Stacy Zeller and husband Larry. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, Andrew Greenwald and wife Nicole, Matthew Greenwald and fiancee Jane, Clint Pigg and wife Anne, Dustin Pigg and wife Carly, Emily Piner and husband Will, Claire Vallery, John Vallery, Joseph Zeller, Daniel Zeller, David Zeller, Mary Grace Zeller, and his Great-grandchildren, Olivia Greenwald, Katie Greenwald, Johnny Schembre, Nicholas Schembre, Sarah Pigg, Marshall Pigg, and Austin Pigg.
