Obituary for Kenneth Lee Mooney

Kenneth Lee Mooney
Kenneth Lee Mooney, age 80, died on Thursday, July 6, 2017, surrounded by his wife and children.

He was born in Magnolia, Arkansas to Ervin and Hazel Mooney and was the oldest of five children. He graduated from Roxie High School and served his country for eight years in both the 854th Medical Company of the Mississippi National Guard, and the 106th Medical Battalion of the Army National Guard.

He received a B.A. in History from Mississippi College, and both a Bachelor of Divinity and a Master of Religious Education from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

He served as minister of youth, education, and music in churches in Mississippi, Texas, and Louisiana where he met and married his wife, Pam Henslee, while serving at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston, Louisiana. In 1975 he joined the Louisiana Baptist Convention as Discipleship Training Director, where he worked until he retired in 2005.

Ken was an avid outdoorsman who loved golf, tennis, fishing, bird hunting, and skiing. He was a traveler, photographer, musician, prolific reader, puzzle worker, romantic, and lover of logistics. His lifelong love of Louisiana Tech and all its sports teams was eclipsed only by his love of the Lord and his love of his wife and family, who will miss his quiet approval, loud directions, infectious laugh, gentle touch, beautiful music, and delicious ice cream.

He is survived by his wife, Pam Mooney, celebrating 49 years of marriage on the day of his passing; three children, daughter Rebecca McGraw (Andrew) of Lacey, Washington; daughter Paige Besson (Kameron), of Marietta, Georgia; son David Mooney (Jessica) of Natchitoches, Louisiana; three siblings, sister Janice Mullins (John) of Roxie, Mississippi; brother Gary Mooney (Grace) of Alvin, Texas; and sister Gail Waites (and the late Michael Waites) of Alvin, Texas; eight grandchildren, Seth and Jacob McGraw; Miles and Ava Besson; Caroline, Connor, Catherine Stokes and Keaton Mooney. He is preceded in death by his parents Ervin and Hazel (nee Rogers) Mooney and sister Saundra Parsons.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Kingsville Baptist Church, Ball Louisiana with the Reverends John Moore, of Hendersonville, Tennessee and Perry Hubbs, of Opelousas, Louisiana, officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Ball, Louisiana.

Friends may visit on Sunday, July 9, at Gallagher Funeral Home, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday, July 10 at Kingsville Baptist Church from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
